I have watched Star Trek in all of its iterations since I was 6 years old. This re-boot is INCREDIBLE and exactly what was needed. J.J. Abrams has, with this film, done what seemed impossible - he's blended the old with the new and emerged with a refreshing, whitewater ride of a movie that boosts the adrenaline while giving techies a treat for the mind (red matter?).
To all the old-school trekkies who wanted a "talkier" picture and nitpick this or that characterization: you are impossible to please and I'm glad I don't have to listen to your dry, wheezing arguments in person.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
