I found the movie entertaining and worth the experience to take my daughter to see but as a person who not only watched but has closely followed the series since its original run in the 60's, I was disappointed in the rewriting of some of the shows history, in story lines and characters.
For those that did not grow up watching the original series nor the subsequent movies, they may never realize the differences nor sequence order of events that have been changed. If the writers merely intended to create an alternate reality, by writing a new beginning, then they did their job well, but it is not the Star Trek those loyal to the series that Gene created have come to cherish.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
