Wow.It was fantastic. Visually stunning. 3D was magical. Plot/character wise, it was nothing you've not encountered before in other films - reminded me of a western, or Zulu Dawn or Custer's Last Stand all rolled into one.
It is woven together very well. The film picks up in the middle of a very complex situation. Backstory is implied, but you get it. Completely. The mark of a story well-told.
What I especially liked about this is no cursing, no graphic s*x - the kind of thing a family with older kids could enjoy together. Not for little ones under, say, a mature 8 or 10. Lots of toothy clawed creatures and violence - fantasy violence, but against characters you're emotionally tied to, so could be too intense for younger kids.
