This movie provided a few laughs and the chemistry between the two stars is terrific. However, many of the funnier scenes have been shown to death in the previews so overall, it wasn't as good as it could have been had those scenes been saved. Decent date movie.
Up was simply wonderful. Both the adults and children in the theater were equally entertained. There were sentimental moments (that brought some teary eyes) and some laugh out loud moments. This is a visually beautful movie as well. I saw it in 3D, which was super, but even in 2D I'm sure it would be great. There are many lessons to be learned and they are offered up in a way that kids won't find overwhelming; respect your elders (and they are even quite fun sometimes), be true to your word, don't be afraid to dream big but also enjoy the small adventures. It's a terrific movie. On a side note, I also loved the animated short film that played before Up featuring the clouds and storks. What a cute little film.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian was average. As is typical with sequels, it doesn't measure up to the first one. Ben Stiller seemed to be phoning it in but Amy Adams was delightful. Every scene she was in was great as she seemed like she was actually having fun. The visuals of the museum pieces were eye catching (a giant balloon dog among the highlights, the Jonas Brothers as cherubs were definitely among the lows) but entertaining enough overall. The kids in the theater enjoyed it WAY more than the adults did so it's a decent pick for the family.
I am a huge fan of both Matthew and Jennifer but I think this is some of their most disappointing work. They had no chemistry at all. If you must see it, I'd say to wait and rent it.
The movie was cute. Isla and Hugh have good chemistry and the storyline was light and fun. When I saw it, the theater was mostly women and the men who were there looked bored. I wouldn't make your guy sit through it, but for a night out with your friends, sisters or mom, why not.
Bolt was entertaining enough. There were some kids in the theater when I saw it and they seemed to really like it (which is the goal I guess) but unfortunately, most of the adults in my theater (myself included) seemed bored. The best thing about it would be the supporting animals (the pigeons, the hampster) but Bolt missed the mark. I saw it in 3D which I would recommend if you plan to go.
Though, as is often the case with heavily marketed films, scenes that could have provided some of the greatest laughs had been played to death in previews over the last few months. However, more often than not, it's harmless summer fun. I think guys will like it more for the physical comedy and the ladies will appeal to Zohan's sensitive side. It's enough of a balance to make it a good date movie for the summer.
The movie was cute enough. It achieved what I assume it set out to do; showcase Patrick Dempsey and capitalize on his current popularity. Aside from one too many coffee collar references (enough already), it's pretty harmless. I'd rate it as a good date movie. There's enough eye candy and buddy scenes to keep the guys happy and enough romance for the ladies.
