If you've never seen Star Trek, this movie is AWESOME!!!. If you've been a fan of the original series for the last 40 years, as I have been, there's a ton of stuff to digest and overcome, hence, for me, this is not a 5 star movie.
Cannon has been changed, irreparably in this film. The events depicted in this film had not happened in the established time line of the original series. Casting is awesome!! Everyone brought their A game to the table.
So, if you're geek fanboy since 1966, and are looking for continuity, you'll have to convince yourself that these events take place in an alternate reality in order to embrace this movie. The Trek I knew and loved is gone, but I think I can learn to love this one too.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
