I was a fan of the original show as a kid and I enjoyed this movie a lot. It has a bit of a different tone to it but overall, I would definitely recommend it. It's worth the admission price. What really makes it are the actors - even the bad guys are fun (possibly even more fun, Patrick Wilson needs to do more stuff like this and it was nice to see Brian Bloom as a put-upon mercenary).
I am happy to say that this re-imagining of the crew's earliest days managed to rock my world. The casting was pitch perfect - you honestly believe you're watching the younger crew from TOS. No one does awful impersonations; the actors are very organic in their respective roles. You also don't need to be a Trekkie/Trekker by any stretch of the imagination to love this movie. It's extremely action packed and not difficult to follow (as in, you can go to the bathroom and won't be lost when you come back). The standouts in the cast were Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto who play Kirk and Spock respectively. By the end of the movie, I wanted it to keep going just so I could see these two characters interact with each other - they were that good.
