Though provoking & original

This movie is a critique of American corporate lifestyles that involve too much travel and lack of personal reponsibility and respect for individuals. The film's criticism is not heavy handed and leavened with humor and a (somewhat) surprising ending. I wish everything Hollywood produced was this good.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not plausible

Engaging action, but the story is not plausible. Unlike "All the President's Men," which presented a real life thriller about life at the Washington Post, "State of Play" was written by somebody who has never worked at a newspaper. When it was over, we realized little of the plot made sense. It's embarrassing to see a distinguished actress like Helen Mirren bahaving like a twit
No, I do not recommend this movie.

One of the best movies of the decade. This movie demonstrates that true stories are usually better than anything a Hollywood goof ball could make up. Anyone who think governments are acting on behalf of the citizens after seeing this film must have been asleep.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

great performances

Richard Dreyfus (whom I normally don't like) gave a masterful performance of Dick Cheney. He ought to get an academy award for best supporting actor. Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, and Elizabeth Banks also make me feel as if I were actually watching the private lives of the Bush family. This movie explains a lot about why the USA is in such as mess today.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A dark message

The message of this movie appears to be that we are victims of random terror. Terrorists have no rational motives beyond being beaten by their parents. The only way to fight such terrorists is with extra-legal means. Those who have fought terror with terror are rejected by the rest of us wimps. Bin Laden is the Jester. Dick Cheney is Batman.
These are disturbing messages for those of us who value our individual liberty more than a little temporary safety. Martin Luther was beaten savagely by his father yet did not become a terrorist. He used reason and language to bring down the power of the Roman Catholic Church. He was not a murderer.
Terrorists often have reasons for their actions, although civilized people can’t condone them. When we allow our protectors to adopt these methods, we have two forces to fear, not just one.
Finally, I got tired of watching things blow up after about two hours of the movie. The special effects were impressive, but a great movie ought to have more than special effects.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Not as good as other Pixar films

The best aspect of WALL-E is the annimation of machinery. I'm a mechanical engineer, and I've never seen anything like it. But the plot of WALL-E falls way short of other Pixar films including both Toy Stories, AntZ, and Shrek 1. It's also mediocre by science fiction standards when compared with the likes of Star Wars 1, the Star Trek movies, and Independence Day. The annimated short before the movie begins is fantastic.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Fans love it

I enjoyed the This American Life Live even though I have only heard one or two of the radio shows on which it's based. My wife and son love the radio show, and I went to movie with my wife, so her enthusiam may have rubbed off.
Fans of the radio and TV show will definately enjoy this large-format video, but the average person may find parts of it bewildering.
Nevertheless, there are some segment that are awesome. Every voter should be required to watch the piece about the Iraqi interviewing Americans about the war.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
