Duvall deserves the Oscar for this one, Murray playing in a secondary role, and he complimented the story perfectly. Great to see Sissy Spacek on the screen again, and her role was great as Duvall's former flame that was left wondering about the past. Black with his thick southern accent is just a great choice for Duvall as a young man trying to help Duvall on his attempt at some sort of redemption before he dies. I don't understand those who said it dragged on, I don't believe it did, but some people can't sit still without explotions, etc. Story was perfect and suited the characters, it is the way it had to be and to rush it would not have been believable in a southern setting.
Looks like many are disappointed btw the book and the movie. Didn't read the book, took my wife to see it because she is a Julia Roberts fan, she didn't like it and neither did I. It had it's moments, and it's not all bad, but it's way too long, and I would wait for it on video. I would say it's one of her worst movies. I like the premise of getting your life back on the right track, but it just drags on.
People who are dogging this movie obviously are looking for something else so don't understand why you would go see an action movie and expect anything different. This movie was NON STOP ACTION from start to finish. Do not miss the opening scene because it is great, and the action lasts until the very end. If you are looking for a great story, then you need to go to another movie, this movie delivers just what it promises, and if you like action and great action effects and BIG GUNS then you will love it. You will never see a pairing of these actors again. Go see this movie you will love it.
Okay well this was tough for me to see a final spin on this great movie series. I saw the first one when my oldest son was a little boy and he is driving now. I am the parent in the movie and my son is Andy as it would seem. Just like all the others are saying I think this is a must see, and a must buy DVD. I don't think it was good as the first two, just because you could tell they were wrapping things up, but I liked how it ended. Seemed appropriate. Now young parents you need to enjoy those kids while they are small. You will blink and they will be grown.
I enjoyed it, and I am a child of the 80's and did like the TV show at the time. Characters I thought were a lot like the TV show, and the special effects were solid in this movie. The relationship between "face" and j. biel's character seemed forced into the movie. I was glad to see B. Bloom get his butt kicked. I didn't like that pretty boy in the 80's. ha ha. I thought his career was a gone as his hair is these days.
...this is not the best or worst Sandler movie. But don't think because of the PG-13 rating that you can take kids. It was embarrassing to have to sit through the long drawn out breast feeding joke that was tired by the time they got the kid to drink out of a carton. There were some funny parts, but I would not have seen the movie if the cast wasn't as big as it was. I would wait for DVD knowing what I know now, but if you have seen everything else then you might give this one a look. Better than Chuck and Larry, no where near Waterboy, Billy Madison, and other classic Sandler.
I thought it was as good or better than A team, not the same type of movie of course, but it was exciting, and the special efffects were good. I'm not going to go too deep with this review, but I've been hearing that this movie is a flop, and if that is true then it's not because of the movie. People going to the movies now cannot afford to take the whole family and this is a family movie. Prices are out of control at the movies and a lot of people are simply waiting on DVD, but this one is worth seeing even if you can only afford a matinee price.
Movie was okay, that's about it. I don't think anybody over 25 is reviewing this movie. I get the plot but it's just not that funny. The best parts were the actions scenes of the little girl and Nick Cage, but just didn't measure up in my opinion. If you are going to see it and you are of the 30's and up crowd then hit the matinee, or rent it.
Saw this awhile back but realized I had not reviewed, really though it's the biggest movie in history at this point. It's great for the effects, just as titanic was for it's recreation, as far as best picture of the year though I don't think so. One thing I have to say is if I am going to shell out 3D prices for the whole family then AMC better get the "cell phone bandits" in the theater under control or they will lose business. Great effects, story line so so, but just awesome experience.
Okay there are alot of people that enjoy the movie and I think it's a solid movie for the family, but for adults it gets a little slow and some of the fits the kids threw and for that matter that the Rock threw near the end were pretty intense for small children. Ryan Sheckler cannot act, but his role was really small. It seems as though they were picking actors from multiple generations to appeal to everyone. I would wait for video having seen it.
