Deniro was under utilized, and his part was almost laughable. I think he owed somebody a favor taking this role. I'm not a Clive Owen fan, but he worked in the role. Jason Statham I like in action roles. The way this one was shot was sort of foggy, mat finish. They could have made a better production out of this with Statham and the legendary Deniro. Don't blow the family budget taking everyone to see this. Pick a matinee and you'll be happy you saved the money. I was entertained but not blown away and I'm being overly generous giving this one four stars, but Deniro deserves it if he is on the screen.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

On the fence about this one

I do like Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, as well as Philip Seymour Hoffman, but if they weren't in this movie then I probably would not recommend this at all. I'm giving it 3 stars because really feel the film was average. I am a sports fan, and interesting to see the take on how the A's with their pathetic ownership was able to make a historic 20 game run, but there was very little gameplay in the movie or the players takes on how they got there and all about the GM (Brad Pitt) getting the credit. You can throw money at a team aka Yankees and still suck, but the A's found the heart to win. They did talk about the transition to more stats and less scouting, (insert any fantasy team reference, how fantasy leagues were born). I liked it, I didn't love it. Wouldn't take the whole family and blow a $100 on this one though.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I finally got around to seeing this movie, and I have to say I enjoyed this one much more than Thor for instance. I feel this was a mix of past movies with modern production. I felt as if I was watching raiders of the lost ark, star wars, with a guy that beefed up like the hulk. Ha ha. I was thinking that the soldiers in the movie looked as though they were fighting the storm troopers and the period of it all looked like R of the L A. I liked the team of soldiers they put together for a little extra attitude. I wondered how they would explain how Capt America would get to modern day, and that was not really explained and I would have liked to know what happened to the rest of his team, and the love interest. Maybe that will unfold later when they combine all the characters from Marvel. Always funny to see how they add creator Stan Lee into the mix.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

....could you ask for. It is frustrating to see the critical reviews of this movie and people who call it "squishy faith movie" or "hallmark melodrama" because this is a story that anyone can relate to. If you've never failed, then you've never been engaged in life. If you have never lost then you've never played the game. In life you will lose at times, but the only way to fail is to quit, give up. This film relates to anyone who has or is struggling, and suffers from depression, loss, or heartache has got them in a dark place, so it relates to everyone. I embrace my faith, but this movie does not shove faith down your throat, it speaks of getting past lifes obstacles, and for many it is their faith that gets them through it all, or keeps them sober, or helps them celebrate the life of a lost loved one, instead of staying in a rut that you feel you can never recover from. If you have a soul you will enjoy this movie. If you are looking for shooting, explosions, or naked people then you should see something else.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I recommend the movie because it is smart and witty at times, but there were very few laugh out loud moments until nearly the end of the movie. I wasn't feeling the chemistry between Julianne Moore and Steve Carells characters. Not really a fan of Ryan Gosling either, but I think Emma Stone is fantastic and Marisa Tomei is wonderful as always. Kevin Bacon is a legend and should have been used more in the movie, although I don't know how, but most of this movie was shot in the bar and that got a little old. Steve Carell has got to grow more because he seems to be playing the same character over and over. Over all I do recommend it, but could have been better.

What can I say that hasn't been covered already. Bring tissues. You will stand and clap when this movie is over, but the ending just breaks your heart for the little girl. Can't give anything else away, but hope this movie keeps people talking about race relations. We should never forget but I hope where we are today having a black President that this truly shows progress among races. I am a white person who lives in the south and when I see or hear of the way things were in the segregated south it just makes me sick. Okay without making this into a statement, I will say that it warms my heart to see things so different, yet we still have a long way to go on all sides no matter your race because discimination and racism is not exclusive to just one particular group. Glad that movies like this are being made so we can talk about it and continue to move forward.

set up for the sequel

I'd recommend it for the action, but the story line was weak between Natalie Portmans character and Thor. Anthony Hopkins was worth seeing this movie for, but this was a set up for the sequel. It's solid, but I just don't feel these movies are worth the 3D price with storylines like these. Should have just put "part 1" in the title.

I think this movie is a solid movie for all. It does slide into the "chick flick" genre due to the casting of Robert Pattinson, but he did very well in the role and for him to continue in Hollywood beyond the vampire stuff then he needs to get out there and show some range and I think he did so. Reese Witherspoon is great as the love interest and to me it worked between the two characters. Great to see Hal Holbrook once again, and I don't know if this will be his last movie, but wish we had seen more of him and what I did see could be Oscar worthy for him. Overall a solid movie. Sad to see how animals were and still are treated in the circus. That part was tough to watch if you love animals. Character roles stole the movie with the circus workers. Don't want to tell too much more about the plot, but you won't walk away angry that you dropped the money on this one.

This is a solid feel good movie, except it's based on a true story so it is very inspiring to know and to watch this movie. I don't want to ruin this one for anybody by telling parts of the movie because the plot is spelled out pretty clearly, but if you have a soul then you will walk out inspired by this one. Great to see Helen Hunt on the screen again, and Dennis Quaid pulls off the surfer Dad look and this one ranks right up there with "The Rookie" for me on the inspiration scale. Kevin Sorbo is not listed in a starring role but he is gaining a reputation with these inspiring movies and I applaud him for that. I was surprised to see Craig T. Nelson but always enjoy seeing him, and Carrie Underwood is good as the youth counselor. Enjoy it on the big screen or on video but my guess is you will enjoy. God Bless.

I am a bit late reviewing this movie, but still doing well at the box office. I really enjoyed this movie and there were twists and turns and especially at near the end that you sort of wonder about but werent ready for and it grabs hold of you. This movie was just the right length to keep you interested and be able to get out before your large coke kicks in. Jake G is really growing into a solid leading man and will be an academy award winner soon.
