This movie basically allows for a whole new generation to enjoy the franchise. Old trekkies will enjoy the seeing their favourite crew on the big screen once again, and new trekkers will enjoy a fresh start to this awesome universe. They no longer need to watch all the previous storylines, this is a fresh start!
Watching the old movies and episodes will make watching this movie more enjoyable, but it's a great movie on it own too.

Not really a date movie, but it does have a romantic plot. Good action, decent storyline, explains a lot of back story and sets up for future movies. All in all a great start to a new series of Xmen movies.
