An amazing experience. Profundly moving. Deeply satisfying. One of the most creative, effective productions at which I've had the honor to be present.
Music, Voices, Staging, Visuals all work together to bring to life a time and person in an extraordinarily meanignful way.
Until I grasped, at my core, what was happening, it would have helped to understand that there were no subtitles until 3/4 way thru the 1st scene. I kept thinking something was missing, which it wasn't, but it did mean that the power of the 1st scene was diluted somewhat for me.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A fabulous production. I never imagined I'd become a Wagner Fan. Despite the soaring music, I've always been left cold by prior Wagnerian productions. This one, however, completely converted me and I ran home to get a ticket for Die Walkure in May.
I love the HDTV broadcasts and this one exceeded my hopes and expectations. I knew the set design would be thrilling (and it was) but the voices and acting in this production brought the story and underlying meaning very alive to me - for the first time.
Don't miss it.

Perfect is perfect is perfect. A completely wonderful production. One of the absolute best I've seen and I've seen almost all the Met's HDTV broadcasts.
The voices, acting, staging, chorus, conducting--all fabulous.
Elina and Roberto have managed to convert me to a Carmen fan. My friends would have thought that impossible! I can't imagine a deeper, richer interpretation of what now I see as complex characters.
A must see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Fabulous Production

Opera at its finest! A great production. Superb in all ways. And it makes you think to boot. For what more can you ask than outstanding voices, acting, staging, costumes, interpretation, score, conducting and a message too? My first introduction to this specific opera but it won't be my last!
Not being a modern music fan, I never expected to find myself so thoroughly enjoying a John Adams composition. But I loved this Opera. The singing and acting and music were superb. I was mesmerized at the end of the 1st Act during the aria - one of the best I've ever heard. The poetry in the scenes with RO and Kitty was fabulous. the production was multi- diumensional & highly psychological, I really need to see it again to fully comprehend the nuances of both libretto and production. A really interesting production one I'll likely add to my HDTV Opera library.
