Avatar is a visually stunning film, with characters that can be identified with, and has a strikingly strong emotional impact. On the surface, this is a typical underdog victory movie. However, there is a deeper message that lurks beneath the engaging computer eye candy. The basic plot of a non-industrial indigenous people being forced out without concern for their culture or economic exploitation is actually taking place today as we speak in the name of securing natural resources for rich western societies like our own. The two most notable examples are the Nigerian Delta and Ecuadorian oil deposits. Realize that you are financing the mechanized bad guys by being a consumer of their products.
