Plot left a lot on the table

As my wife and I left the theater, she pointed out that she was disappointed because there were so many missed opportunities to make the story better: There was no consequence/cost for the human terminator to leave skynet. There could have been linkage between his life and the life of Skynet. John Connor had too easy of a time outsmarting the machines, and the whole heart thing was a cheap shot. It could have been handled more poignantly by having him be badly wounded and reprogramming the stuck terminator to help him and allowing Sam Worthington to help Kyle and then have everyone deal with the conflicts of terminators among men.
It seemed like it was written by a 25 year old who hasn't studied story-making.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
