This movie will definitely appeal to a broad audience. The effects were amazing -- far beyond anything Star Trek has done before -- and the plot was not as complex as it might have been (but Star Trek fans are no strangers to crazy time travel arcs). At times, the story even seemed a little light, i.e., the many convenient twists designed to bring the original crew together. In the end, though, it was a very good movie. The opening scenes were some of the best Star Trek ever. Still, for long-time fans I think its a little bitter-sweet to see new people and events in the Star Trek universe.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
