Star Trek Provides Foundation for a "New" Series

Star Trek is a good movie, with plenty of action, decent character development, some sentimentality, and a splash of humor. The "alternate history" premise is intriguing, but I found it somewhat disturbing that it seemed as if the composition of the Enterprise crew was inevitable or somehow destined. Of course, I'm happy to see all the principal characters in their roles, but if things are really different, I would appreciate additional significant characters in future installments of this new "series," especially more female characters. Also, frankly, I was hoping for more explicit depictions of Captain Kirk in his escapades with the ladies, than was understandably permissible on the original TV show.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
