As with the other movies, cuts and deviations from the book are to be expected (or else the movie would be 5 hours long). I didn't find any of the cuts offensive, although I am curious to see how they will handle some things in #7 because of what was cut from #6. If you have not read the books or seen any of the other movies, you will be frequently lost. If you are a real HP fan, you will love this movie as I did. (I won't say anything specific so I'm not a spoiler.)Definitely worth sitting in the theater an hour before showtime to get a decent seat!

Not surprisingly, Johnny Depp shines in a truly deep and complex character, but he is supported by fine acting from Cotillard and Bale as well. The cinematography is interesting, giving the film even more of the 30s look than just sets and costumes, but don't sit too close or you'll feel nauseous. Excellent movie, mixing psychological with action instead of just a bunch of gansters committing crimes.

Truly Successful Sequel

It seems that usually sequels don't quite live up to the original, but this is definitely an exception. Overall, it is fast-paced with incredible fight sequences, several moments when you will laugh out loud, and a few times where you might tear up, too. My only criticism is that I found myself periodically thinking that the plot isn't very original. Definitely not for children, but teens and adults who like action movies will really enjoy this one. I'm looking forward to #3!!

The locations are beautiful, and Roberts and Owen do have good chemistry. The convolusions in the plot keep you on your toes for the first third and the very end -- the middle is pretty predictable. Some of the dialogue makes you wonder if it is supposed to be funny or it accidentally happened that way -- there were times that I laughed but most of the others in the theatre didn't. Overall I liked the movie, but left the theatre a little flat; it just didn't quite measure up to the slickness and wittiness of the Oceans movies.
