Other than the fact that this movie continues the apparent decades long blacklisting of the Navy from alien attack films, this film was awesome. It was way better than "Skyline", "Independence Day" and the remake of "War of The Worlds". The action was solid and the style of filming was great. The aliens were awesome and fearsome. I know some people lamented not seeing more of the aliens, but its a film about humans defending against aliens so why would we want to see from the alien perspective. Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez were on top of their games. The film lends itself to obvious sequels like Battle: San Diego or Battle: San Francisco or wherever.
First of all, this is a man's film. Don't take your wife or girlfriend unless your body can rate with the men in this film or else you'll spend the whole film listening to her drool all over herself and wish you would hit the gym more often. That said, overall, it was a great action film. Stallone delivers again as the primary pitchman for gyms and the American firearms industry. It's not as bloody as Rambo, but only because he had to parcel out more of the action to the other stars. I wish they had fleshed out the characters and storyline a bit more. The rogue CIA guys were vague and the dictator and location were standard A-Team quality. We don't get to learn too much about the heroes either, but then we'd need a three hour film for that and even Rambo needed sequels for us to know anything about that character. This is a manly movie. The violence is top rate, the weapons are first rate and the women, for once, don't screw up the storyline. Cops and those who carry concealed will love the pistolcraft in this movie. Stallone looks great for 63. I hope he can sneak in a sequel before he retires from action films for good.
I was around for the original "Escape To Witch Mountain" . Looking back the special effects were pretty hokey and the movie was standard Disney but I liked it as a kid. The re-make is also standard Disney. The movie hits on everything from the original film to the X-Files, but there were lots of laughs and action. There is no depth or character development but if that is what you came for you might want to slip next door and see "Slumdog Millionaire". I don't expect Oscar caliber material from Disney. I expect to be entertained and Disney delivered again as it has since I was old enough to watch films.
