People have bemoaned the decline of the Star Trek franchise without realizing the real appeal of the story. Granted it was set in the future, where amazing things could happen, which allow the directors of today to use wonderful special effects. That doesn't explain the failure of recent movies or TV shows. It's all about stories, the characters and the interpersonal relationships. The crew of the original series had amazing chemistry, and the best stories were well written with great character interaction. This Star Trek has that. Great actors with great personal relationships in a good story. Great special effects are gravy.
The Watchmen was remarkably true to the story & emotional content of Moore's work, but It couldnt include all the nuances and existential reflections. Story unfolds like a Rock opera or Shakespearean tragedy, w/long stretches of drama interspersed by the occaisional bloody battle. This show is definitely not suitable for young children because of sexual situations & graphic violence. Those who are there to see an action flick may find emotional and existential moments to be boring and too drawn out in places. Hardcore Watchman fans should be pleased. The acting is better than I expected and it captured the emotional intensity of the novel well.
