After reading glowing newspaper reviews of "Water For Elephants," seeing the movie was a disappointment. The story was predictable and Robert Pattinson was just as stiff and lifeless as his portrayal of the vampire in the "Twilight" movies. The real pleasures of this film are Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. Both actors give powerful performances.
Johnny Depp does a masterful job depicting John Dillinger. The story is good and the period setting is well done. The perspective is a little unnerving. It seemed as if the entire film was shot from within six feet of the characters so the cuts were jumpy and the actors were right in your face. The suits and unshaven aspect of many of the characters made it dificult to tell one from the other and who were the good guys and who were the bad guys.
