People complaining that the movie was full of sex and violence just do not get it. The conventions of this kind of horror include brutal murders and T&A nudity. Go back and look at the late '70s and early '80s horror, and that's what you'll find. I grew up on the original Friday The 13th series, and Nightmare, Halloween, Phantasm, and I'm glad the producers of this film didn't wimp out and make this movie just another watered-down reboot. It's not a date movie, and it's not Citizen Kane. It's an all-American badass slasher flick. If that concept bothers you, stay home and watch Twilight.
It's important that in these times when so much emphasis is placed on honoring our heroes, we don't forget those brave Americans who fought and sacrificed by going against the mainstream. By making sure that civil rights were not denied some of us, Harvey Milk helped to secure freedom for all of us. This movie is one of Van Sant's best, Danny Elfman's score is excellent as usual, Penn's portrayal is amazing and will live as one of his career highlights. Josh Brolin is great in portraying the tightly-wound darkness that Dan White always seems to have in the old footage of him. Soon to be a classic, you should catch this on the big screen while you can.
