I have seen Die Walkure numerous times, and I enjoyed this performance very much. I thought the fancy machine was used to great effect in the first act, and nothing about it bothered me until the very end. The singing of the Valkyries came through particularly nicely in this production. Just prior to the end, there was a very powerful moment in which Bryn Terfel as Wotan opened his arms to Brunhilde. Just a great moment!
Unfortunately, I thought the staging of the very end spoiled the emotional, very intimate, feel of the magic fire ending. The last scene was admittedly visually impressive, but it left me cold. Frankly, I think having Wotan and Brunhilde leave the stage to set up this ending was just a boneheaded directorial move. It disrupted the whole feel of the scene. It may be that the very visually stunning ending in itself was a distraction rather than an enhancement to this intimate moment. Though stunning, it also lacked a convincing sense of a ring of fire.
A psychological mystery in the end, somewhat like Volver. It took a while for me to get caught up in it, but in the end it was very satisfying.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The singing and emotions of the performers were excellent. The end of the second act was nontraditional, but made sense. As for other nontraditional elements, I thought the women with Scarpia at the beginning of the second act made sense in the story. However, the simulated intimate act was gratuitous and distracting.
The sets were a little drab at times, but adequate. The staging of the last moments leading up to Tosca's leap was a little awkward, but the leap itself was stunning. The big sreen HD format is a wonderful way to see opera and to appreciate how great and subtle the stars' acting can be as they perform Olympic level singing.
