I really enjoyed the HD performance of Armida in spite of the generally unforgiviing reviews in the major press. Granted it could have been shorter but it was it was good to have the opportunity to see and hear it uncut. I had listened to the premiere performance on XM radio.
I didn't even think that the kitschy touches (e.g., demons in tutus) were too much, particularly when compared with those in Tosca. I certainly wish it were possible to hear Callas' 1952 performance and I look forward to listening to the younger Fleming's CD.
Finally these Live in HD performances are such a treat and such a bargain that I would unreservedly recommend them to anyone
As someone said earlier the HD Butterfly exceeded every expectation. the production was stunning. It was the best opera experience I have ever had, exceeding my previous favorite, Santa Fe's Turandot also with Patricia Recette. It was better than being there in person unless you alone were able to sit at the center edge of the stage with the singers just in front of you and the orchestra behind you - completely enveloped as if the performance was just for you.
I could have immediately watched it again unless it would have proved too emotional draining.
