"Mirror Mirror" this is not!! A very "Violent Fairy Tale" that is not for children.
"Snow White and the Huntsman" is a twisted take on the beloved classic fairy tale, "Snow White". Charlize Theron as the "Wicked Queen" was very wicked indeed!
This Installment of "Snow White" finds the wicked queen ordering a "Huntsman" (Chris Hemsworth) to go into the dark forbidden forest to hunt down Snow White (Kristen Stewart) who has fled the kingdom. The wicked queen wants Snow White brought back so she can take her heart to stay forever young. The story unfolds from there...
Very interesting special effects. The cinematography is really good. The action is intense and violent. The story is very dark. Unfortunately I only found this installment mildly entertaining. There was some history lacking in the story, sometimes the dialog was meaningless.
Although this installment is much richer and better then "Mirror Mirror" which opened in March 2012. There is nothing funny about this version of the classic tale of "Snow White".
I was on the fence about seeing "Men In Black III". It's been 10 years since the last installment (A little late if you ask me) and I had to remind myself why I even liked the franchise.
"Men In Black III" is surprisingly entertaining and fun!! It's better then the 2nd installment, but not nearly as good as the 1st.
In this third installment Agent J(Will Smith) travels back in time about 43 years to 1969 where he finds it necessary to alter history to stop an alien from killing Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones). The story unfolds from there...
Lots of loud noise, action, special effects and cool cinematography. The movie is fast paced and keeps moving.
The on-screen chemistry between Will Smith and Tommie Lee Jones has not diminished with time. Josh Brolin does an excellent job in his role as the young Agent K.
If you enjoyed the previous installments, you will enjoy "Men In Black III". It's a must see in IMAX, but not necessarily 3D.
"What to Expect When You're Expecting" is a light-hearted comedy that takes a hard look at the dark side of being pregnant.
Parenthood turns the lives of five happy go lucky couples upside down. One couple with celebrity status is unprepared. They find themselves scrambling to work a baby into there busy lives. Another couple times the art of "baby making" down to an alert on their phones. The Trophy Wife of another couple is expecting twins. Another couple wants to have a baby but can't the traditional way so they go all the way to Africa to adopt one. Another couple who are victims of a one-time hook-up surprisingly find out they are expecting. The story unfolds from there...
Mildly funny, but mostly boring and sanitized. I could say this is a "Chick Flick", but the guys get equal billing in the movie, so it's for all male and female adults. There are 5 different stories going on and some how they are all intertwined.
I had high hopes for "Battleship" unfortunately it doesn't even come close to meeting my expectations!!
Remember the Hasbro board game called "Battleship"? Well the movie does loosely follow that game. It was believed that from the movie trailers "Battleship" was going to be a "Water Transformers", but that is actually not quite the case.
Dr. Nogrady (Adam Godley) believes that there is human life on a distant planet. An experiment is set in motion where at certain times of the day a satellite sends signals to a distant planet called "Planet 9". Little does anyone know, there is life on "Planet 9" and after receiving the signals from the satellite over the course of several days, "Planet 9" sends some of it's resources to earth. They crash land in the Pacific Ocean and just off the coast near Tokyo. The story unfolds from there...
Think of "Battleship" as "Space Invaders" vs. "Maritime Conflict". The positives of the movie are cool special effects, nice cinematography, and some intense action. The best humor in the movie involved a "Chicken Burrito". The negatives are the dialog. The dialog was horrible!! If you can't follow or understand the dialog, how are you going to follow and understand the movie. The only time the dialog made sense was when the battleship was plotting it's moves in the ocean like the Hasbro Game. What a waste of Liam Neeson's talents and an even bigger waste of cool special effects.
If you really want to see "Battleship" by all means do, but if you have something better to do this weekend wait for it on DVD or Blue-ray.
I have to admit that I was all hyped up to see the next James Bond installment. Well my balloon burst quickly. While I am not saying the movie isn't good because it is. It's just not as good as "Casino Royale". The bar was set so high by "Casino Royale" that "Quantum of Solace" just does not measure up. There is something that is missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. I will say this, there was no "Q" in this Bond installment. You know the guy who always provides the coolest electronic gadgets and cars for Bond to use on him missions. No matter how many Bond installments are made I will always and forever believe that Sean Connery and Roger Moore were the best James Bonds!!
After the betrayal and death of Vesper Lynd, James Bond makes his next mission personal. The hunt for those who blackmailed his lover leads Bond to businessman Dominic Greene (played by Mathieu Amalric). As it turns out Greene was a key player in the organization which coerced Vesper. Bond learns that Greene is plotting to gain control of a vital natural resource. Bond must navigate a web of treachery and danger to stop Greene at all costs. The story unfolds from there.
The plot is a little bite disengaging because while Bond is hunting people, he seems to be the hunted.
From the very first minute of the movie, there is a serious car chase where an Aston Martin and an Audi are eventually destroyed. There is lots and lots of action and fighting. There are some really good scenes that because of the camera angles will make you seem like you are right there in the midst of everything.
The movie takes you through Latin America and Europe.
Grammy award winner Alicia Keys co-wrote and performs the soundtrack for the movie.
I have waited for over 18 months for "Marvels' The Avengers"...the wait is over and they are here!!
The movie does not disappoint! There is a really good storyline, a meaningful plot and there is nothing typical about this first installment.
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) heads up S.H.I.E.L.D which is an international peace keeping agency. Something goes terribly wrong with an experience that the agency is doing. This experience brings "Loki" (Tom Hiddleston) who is "Thor's" (Chris Hemsworth) adopted brother from another planet. "Loki" wants to rule the world, but S.H.I.E.L.D can't allow that. Nick Fury makes several distress calls to assemble "The Avengers". After everyone has been located the fun really starts...
"Marvels' The Avengers" is action packed, edge of your seat thrills. It's a wild adventurous ride. There is some nice cinematography. It's a bit long at 2 hours 23 minutes but well worth it. Definitely a must see in IMAX 3D. Excellent start to a new movie franchise. If you are a fan of Marvel Comics this is your movie!!
"The Five-Year Engagement" is "Suprisingly Hilarious and Stupendously Funny" "The Five-Year Engagement" provides an intimate look at a couple's (Tom and Violet) life as they get engaged and make life changing decisions which cause them to delay their wedding, which then puts a strain on their engagement and eventually causes the couple to re-evaluate their relationship. The story unfolds from there... "The Five-Year Engagement" picks up where the 2011 movie "Bridesmaids" leaves off. It's crazy funny, giving you the really "Ha Ha" humor and then the really "Dry" humor. There are times when the dialog comes across as "Gross" and the supporting cast seems a bit off, but all in all the movie is good. Definitely worth the ticket...
"Safe" turns out to be better then expected. Although the plot is weak and you are not able to determine what the plot really is until very late in the movie. Jason Statham is Luke Wright a cage fighter. He leads a very mudane life and makes pennies. When he throws a rigged fight the Russian Mafia murders his family. Forced out onto the streets Luke wanders from pillar to post until he stumbles upon a little chinese girl in the subway. It's obvious that she is running from someone. Luke Wright sees whose chasing the little girl and decides he can get a little revenge for his family. He goes after the people who are trying to catch the little girl. Luke soon finds out that this little girl is very very smart and is harboring a very big secret. There are people who will kill to get the information that she has. The story unfolds from there... Typical Jason Statham movie with lots of "Kick-Ass" fight scenes and plenty of action. The outcome is also typical.
"The Raven" is a HUGH disappointment. John Cusack's talent was squandered. "The Raven" is a cross between those horrible "Saw" movies and "Sherlock Holmes". Someone is mimicking Edgar Allen Poe's lurid tales, or rather bringing them to life and death in a terrible way. There have been several horrific murders and the police are baffled until a detective comes in to examine the crime scenes. He sees some familiarity in the crimes. He then brings in Edgar Allen Poe to consult. Once Poe is brought in, a game of cat and mouse begins between Poe and the would be murderer. The story unfolds from there... The movie is bloody and very violent. There is a lot of drama and suspense. Those are the only good qualities. The movie does not begin well and runs out of steam at the end.
"Think Like a Man" is a true Courtship Comedy with lots of laughs! There is also some profanity, some people are effected more then others by foul language in movies so I wanted you to know up front. Over all the movie is good!! Several women who are all really good friends go out and purchase Steve Harvey's best selling self-help book, "Think like a Man, but Act like a Woman". The men in these women's lives have no idea that their worlds are about to be turned upside down once the ladies start using the information that they are reading in the book. The story unfolds from there... The movie is funny, engaging and entertaining. There is a decent amount of comedy and the romance is not over the top.
