There is a cast of thousands in "Valentine's Day" unfortunately the director did not know what to do with so much great talent! There are eight different stories going on in "Valentine's Day" so you must pay close attention. Julie Robert's story is the absolute best and she steals the movie!! Jennifer Garner's story is a close second. "Valentine's Day" is about the traditions of Valentine's Day and how these traditions intersect with 10 people and their lives in Los Angeles. The movie is sappy to say the least. There are a few very cool things that happen in the movie. If you have nothing better to do, I recommend seeing the movie for Julia Roberts story. Otherwise wait for it to come out on Blue Ray or DVD.
Do not be fooled! "Dear John" is not your typical love story and it does not have a predictable ending. How refreshing!! After a soldier (Channing Tatum) meets a college student (Amanda Seyfried) while she is on break and he is on leave, they spend 7 thunderous years writing back and forth while he extends his Tour of Duty again and again...then the letters stop. The story unfolds from there...Channing Tatum's character is not afraid to show his emotions, this makes the story very interesting. When you think you have it figured out, Wham!! a twist will take you in a different direction. Take a box of Kleenex with you.
I do not care what the paid critics say about "From Paris with Love" The movie is screaming good! John Travolta is a crazy "Bad-Ass" The movie has all of the elements of a good Action flick. John Travolta plays a high-ranking US Intelligence Agent who gets paired up with a low-level intelligence operative (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) who works for the US Ambassador in France. They get sent out on an official mission together and things start to get dicey from the jump. The story unfolds from there..."From Paris with Love" is crazy good!! Lots of action, action and more action, suspense and intrigue. John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers compliment each other very well. You will be kept guessing right up to the end.
"When in Rome" is "Cute, Funny, Mildly Romantic and Stupid" all at the same time. Unfortunately the "Stupid" parts far out way anything else.Imagine if you will a woman who is a workaholic, she goes to Rome to attend her sister's wedding, while she is there she takes coins out of a luck fountain rather then put them in. As she takes out each coin the guy that put the coin in the fountain magically falls in love with her and ultimately seeks her out, but there is one guy who pursues her and there is no lucky coin involved. The story unfolds from there... Kristin Bell and Josh Duhamel are cute together, but there was entirely too much hocus pocus for me. "When in Rome" is not worth the price of admission.
Boy was I surprised!! "Edge of Darkness" is a much more gripping Suspense Thriller then the trailers advertised. Think Corporate coverup, dirty CEO, Bad Scentists, A US Senator in your hip pocket, the smell of death and you have "Edge of Darkness". Mel Gibson is back on the big screen after an 8 year absence. He plays Detective Thomas Craven who investigates his daughter's murder and during this investigation a lot comes to light. Not a tremendous amount of action as originally thought, but there is a tremendous amount of suspense and very bloody. Things are not what they seem. Mel Gibson once again plays crazy and out of control. The movie tends to drag and is slow at times, but "Edge of Darkness" is worth seeing.
The previews for "The Book of Eli" were really action packed and had you on the edge of your seat expecting something intense. Unfortunately the actual movie "The Book of Eli" does not deliver. The first hour of the movie is really good, lots of action, intrigue, Denzel displaying some serious Martial Arts skills. The second half of the movie left me scratching my head trying to put the pieces together. Imagine 30 years from now when all of the fighting with other countries and wars are over and there is nothing left of America as we know it, to survive you have to be some what of a bandit or belong to a band of thieves. There is one person who carries/holds the knowledge that can restore civilization, this is "The Book of Eli".
Director Guy Ritchie sets in motion a new dynamic portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes and his side-kick Dr Watson. They both find themselves having to display some really dynamic fighting skills to battle and stop a vicious plot to over take the UK and then the world. I found this installment of "Sherlock Holmes" a bit dark, but none the less it's an interesting story. The movie starts off a bit slow, but definitely picks up steam and continues to the end. Robert Downey Jr. shows the extend of his range. he does an excellent job of portraying Sherlock Holmes. The movie is action-packed and full of interesting special effects.
It's Complicated" is "Funny", "Cute", "Hilarious" and "Very Entertaining!!" Alec Baldwin was a bite dry, but none the less he too was funny at times. "It's Complicated" is about a middle-aged divorcee who has 3 grown children and owns a successful Bakery/Restaurant, after being divorced for 10 years, her ex-husband who is married to someone else wants her back... The story unfolds from there.
"Did You Hear About the Morgan's?" has limited humor. The on-screen chemistry between Sara Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant is non-existent. After witnessing a Mob crime, two die-hard New Yorkers are placed in a witness protection program. They are flown to a one horse town in Wyoming where there are no Bistros, Cafes, Gourmet shops and definitely no Wall Street. This is what makes up "Did You Hear About the Morgan's?" To say the movie was dry is an understatement. No wonder the movie only did $7 million dollars it's opening weekend.
"Up In The Air" is worth all of the Oscar buzz it has been receiving. This is the best I have seen from George Clooney in a couple of years. George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham a Corporate downsizing expert who loves to travel. He loves to travel so much that he hates when he has to go home (Omaha). Ryan's happy existence is threaten just as he is about to reach 10 million frequent flyer miles and he meets what he believes is the woman of his dreams. The story unfolds from there...
