"The Back-up Plan" is about a successful business woman who's biological clock is ticking. She wants to have a baby, but she does not have a man in her life, so she pays to be artifically inseminated. On the day the procedure is done, she meets a guy who could be the one! The movie is cute, funny and delightful, but a bit slow at times. I really like Jennifer Lopez in romantic comedies and she holds the script up the best that she can. "The Back-up Plan" is definitely better then "Death at a Funeral".
I expected "Death at a Funeral" to be hilarious, after all it is a remake of a British comedy and the previews were really funny. I was extremely disappointed because "Death at a Funeral" is only mildly funny and some of the funny parts were crude to say the least. "Death at a Funeral" is about an African American family who is preparing to lay the husband to rest. As family members arrive for the funeral service, shocking information comes to light as well as some shocking events take place at the memorial service.
I have been suckered again by a trailer. The absolute best parts of the movie are shown in the trailer. I have watched the trailer so many times it's crazy. The title "Clash of the Titans" is the only similarities that the movie shares with it's 1981 predecessor. "Clash of the Titans" is a story where Perseus(Worthington), the son of Zeus (Neeson) is caught between a war of the Gods. He must decide if he is going to join is Father or remain where he is as a demi-god. Preseus is helpless to save the only real family he has known, but he can save the city of Argos. Needless to say the 3D animation was severely lacking. This is NOT a must see in 3D. You can see it in 2D and the story will show the same.
"Wow" Let's pray that the world that is shown in the "Repo Men" never comes to light in our time. Image if you will a furturistic world where when one of your organs fails for what ever reason you can get a replacement immediately, but it will cost you. It will cost you a ridiculous amount of money, but not to worry, you would be setup with a payment plan. Miss more then 3 payments and the "Repo Men" will find you and surgically remove the planted organ. A strange accident causes Jude Law's character (Whom by the way is a Repo Man) to need an artifical heart. The story unfolds from there. Way too Bloody, Violent and Grisly!!!
Sadly "Our Family Wedding" was not as cute or funny as expected. On the premises the movie seemed plausible, but some how the concept was lost in the craziness. Take "Father of the Bride" change the dynamics so that there is a mixed race couple and the groom's father is not only hosting the reception, but also paying for the wedding and you have "Our Family Wedding". "Father of the Bride" was a much better movie. The actors in "Our Family Wedding" appeared awkward as if they did not know or weren't sure what to do. The comedy parts of the movie were more stupid then funny.
Set in 2003, Matt Damon plays Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, he and his team of inspectors are in Iraq looking for weapons of mass distruction. These searches are based on intel received from a source known as "Magellan". Search after search leads no where. Chief Warrant Officer Miller questions where the intel source is coming from and who is the source. The General does a song and dance about the source. On the surface, Chief Warrant Office Miller accepts the answers that are given to him, but decides to set up his own mission to get at the truth. The story unfolds from there..."Green Zone" has lots of violence and military type action. The movie is very gritty, serious, some what political and a bit passionate.
FINALLY Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer" opened in a theater in my area. I am not sure why "The Ghost Writer" is not open in wide release. It's definitely a really good movie. "The Ghost Writer" has all of the elements of a good suspense thriller, it's intelligent, intriguing, and has lots of twists and turns. There is even some mild humor. Ewan McGregor plays a successful Ghost Writer who is contracted to complete the memoirs of the former Prime Minister of Great Britain Adam Lang. It appeared on the surface to be an opportunity of a lifetime, but once the assignment started, it was anything but. The story unfolds from there. The suspense builds from the opening scene in the movie. This is definitely adult entertainment at it's best.
"Brooklyn's Finest" centers around the everyday trials and tribulations of three Brooklyn police officers. One officer is seven days away from retirement, another is an undercover officer trying to flush out some serious drug traffic and trade, so he can make detective first grade and the other officer who is a family man with 4 children who finds himself desparately needing to make more money to buy a larger home, because his wife is pregnant with twins. The story unfolds from there...Lots of police type action, very bloody, violent, dark and often times very realistic looking. There is an extremely large amount of sexual content and nudity.
I have to say "Cop Out" was a "COP OUT!!!" "Cop Out" has it's moments, it was at times hilarious, but mostly it was stupid. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are two NYPD veteran police officers. They use unorthodoxed methods to nab their criminals. One bust goes bad and this lands them both a 30 day suspension, but even without their department issued badges and guns they continue being Cops. The story unfolds from there..."Cop Out" was at times laugh out loud funny and other times laugh out loud stupid. I found myself checking my watch in the darkened theater about 90 minutes into the movie. I was ready for it to be over. There is some seriously crude language that is used throughout the movie, for which I could have done with out.
Set in 1954 off the Boston Harbor Island,"Shutter Island" is about an insane asylum that houses the really criminally insane. It would appear that a patient some how go out. US Federal Marshall (Mark Ruffalo) and his new partner (Leonardo DiCaprio) are called to investigate. They get intangled in a web of deceit, a prison riot, a hurricane and then if that wasn't enough they both get trapped on the Island. Shutter Island" is Dark, Full of Twists, Turns and Surprises. Nothing is as it seems. When you think you have it figured out "WHAM!" you get hit with another angle. Director Martin Scorsese is a master at giving you many angles and possibilities for a plot/story. The cinematography is amazing.
