"THOR" is a nice entry into the blockbuster summer movies especially the Super Hero genre. "Thor" (Chris Hemsworth) is a very handsome, powerful and reckless Warrior. Due to his reckless actions he reignites an ancient war. His father the king (Anthony Hopkins) is incensed about this and casts "Thor" down to Earth and forces him to live amongst human beings without his armor and mighty power. While "Thor" is on earth he learns what it takes to truly be a hero when Earth is faced with having to fight off a dangerous evil that is sent down to Earth by the forces of Asgard. The story unfolds from there... I love the armor that "Thor" wears and the crazy cool and very powerful "Hammer" that he uses as his weapon. The camera angles and cinematography are wonderful. There are plenty of crazy cool special effects and lots of action. The door was left open, so I would expect there to be at least one sequel. "Thor" is best viewed at an IMAX cinema.
Let me start off by stating that if you have even a "Mild" interest in the "Fast & Furious" installments I would definitely see "Fast Five". This one is way better then the previous 3 installments. When the previous installment "Fast & Furious (2009)" ended, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) was sentenced to 25 year to life in prison. His "Posse" could not allow that to be played out, so they caused the prison bus to have an accident. In this installment Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) have been on the run to elude the authorities because they are wanted for questioning regarding Dominic Toretto's escape from custody. They end up in Rio de Janeiro, they need to pull one more job so they can secure their freedom permanently. Once Mia and Brian are reunited with Dominic they together assemble a team to pull off a heist from the evil corrupt businessman who is trying to kill them and to add to their worries a DEA Agent (Dwayne Johnson) is after them. The story unfolds from there... "Fast Five" contains "Mind Blowing Action", "Unbelievable Car Chases", "Crazy Cool Stunts". We are talking "High Octane" at it's finest. It's mindless entertainment, but oh so good!!
"Water for Elephants" is based on the best selling novel by Sara Gruen When Jacob (Robert Pattinson) a veterinary student is informed during his board exams that his parents were killed in a automobile accident. Jacob drops out of school and leaves the only home he has ever known. He then joins a circus, where he eventually becomes the Circus Vet. Things start to heat up when Jacob takes notice of Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), a performer in the circus and the owner's wife. The story unfolds from there... Nicely told story, you are reminded of old school movies. "Water for Elephants" at times is steamy with heated sexual undertones and a bit sadistic. The Atmosphere at the circus is dark, not bright and cheery like you would expect. If you are an animal lover you will love "Rosey" the Elephant. The problem with "Water for Elephants" is that Robert Pattinson's and Reese Witherspoon's characters were too weak against the strong character played by Christopher Waltz.
When Madea's niece Shirley finds out that she only has a few weeks to live, she tries to get her entire family together for dinner so that she can tell them, but Shirley's three grown children each have so many issues of their own that they are unwilling to set aside their problems for one evening and just be there for their Mother. Madea is asked to use her "Skills" to get Shirley's children to the dinner table. The story unfolds from there... There is one Spiritual moment in the movie that will have you in tears and there is a couple of scenes that will have you in stitches, but beside that, it's just not as good as other Tyler Perry Productions. The movie even ends on a strange note!
"Hanna" is about a young girl (Saoirse Ronan) who is raised in the wilderness of Finland by her father (Eric Bana) who is an ex-CIA agent. He is training her to be the perfect assassin, but she has no idea why. Every move she makes is calculated and everything she says is rehearsed many many times. Then one day everything changes. The story unfolds from there. "Hanna" is good if you can stand all of the Violence and Blood. Although there are times when "Hanna" is a bit slow. It's like you want them to get to the point, but the story seems meticulously slow. There is enough action, intrigue and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next.
"Source Code" is a "Tremendously Thrilling Suspenseful Ride" There is nothing lacking about it. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Captain Colter Stevens who wakes up on a train in the body of an unknown man. Captain Stevens soon finds out that he is part of a mission to find a bomber of a Chicago Commuter train. This assignment is unlike any he has ever known. The story unfolds from there... It does not get any more suspenseful then this!! Intriguing and lots of heart stopping action. "Source Code" contains beautiful cinematography, great camera angles, fabulous special effects and good acting. This movie plays to all of you Sci-Fi fans. Don't ask any questions, don't analyze it, don't think too much, just enjoy the ride!! If we could do what we see in this movie, life would change as we currently know it and things would be so awesome!!!
Have you ever considered what it would be like to access 100% of your brain power?? Just image if you will a pill that can provide you with the ability to access 100% of your brain power and make you the smartest person in the world. This is what "Limitless" is about. Of course there are caveats and "Limitless" is not with out some. Bradley Cooper plays Eddie Morra a down on his luck copywriter who is just days from being evicted from his apartment and his girlfriend has had enough of his messy junky lifestyle. Eddie runs into his former brother-in-law Vernon (Johnny Whitworth) who is a pharmacutical rep. They have a drink together and discuss old times. Vernon then offers Eddie an experimental pill called MDT-48 to take, telling him it will give him access to 100% of his brain power to help him with his novel writing. After much hesitation Eddie accepts the pill and later actually takes the pill. The story unfolds from there... "Limitless" starts off slow, but picks up speed and then becomes very interesting. The cinematography and special effects are really good. There is a small amount of intrigue and suspense. The movie is interesting, but falls short of been great. "Limitless" is based on the 2001 techno-thriller called "The Dark Fields" that was written by writer Alan Glynn. The book is being republished in 2011 by McMillan under the name "Limitless".
"The Lincoln Lawyer" Hands down is the best movie that Matthew McConaughey has made since "A TIME TO KILL"!!! The "Lincoln Lawyer" is an awsome suspense legal/crime thriller. The movie is like a non-stop locomotive that takes you for a thrilling ride, but then slows down to a crawl at the very end. Matthew McConaughey plays an attorney named Mickey Haller who operates his law practice from the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car. He is fulled staffed with a Secretary, a PI and a Driver. Mickey mostly represents low-rent clients, but he is recommended for a high-profile case where the man (Ryan Phillippe) insists that he is innocent of a brutal crime of beating up a high-class call girl. Mickey takes the case and the story unfolds from there... Lots of intrigue and suspense!! It's "Off the Chain" good. "The Lincoln Lawyer" is definitely worth the price of admission.
Do you remember the following movies: "Minority Report", "Total Recall", "A Scanner Darkly" , "Next" or "Blade Runner"? Well they all have something in common with "The Adjustment Bureau". All of these movies were based on either a novel or short story by Author Philip K. Dick. Matt Damon plays politican "David Norris" who is on the cusp of winning a senate seat in New York when he meets a ballerina "Elise Sellas" (Emily Blunt). David is smitten with her, but there are a group of mysterious men who are conspiring to keep them separated. The story unfolds from there... Only Matt Damon could pull this off. He is such a strong actor. He makes this crazy story plausible. The chemistry between Matt and Emily is steamy to say the least!! "The Adjustment Bureau" has the right amount of intrique and suspense along with the fact that there is a love story simmering slowly. There are some very small similarities to the 2004 political thriller "The Manchurian Candidate"
"Blue Valentine" is about the evolution of a couple Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams) from the time they meet, the courtship, the marriage and then the marriage falling apart. The story is told in past and present tense. There is one final attempt to save their marriage when they go away for some "alone" time. Dean and Cindy's story was very real life, not sugar-coated, often times sad and depressing. A real eye opening experience.
