Awesome production......from EVERY standpoint! The staging by LePage brought new meaning to the mythical storyline. Costumes great...........and, oh yes, the singing was topnotch.
The cast was accomplished, vibrant and excellent. Staging was interesting and didn't detract. And, as always, the orchestra was superb. And AMC was most generous is offering a free pass to make up for the 'bombing' going on in the theatre next door.
Movie had its moments, but too many scenes of watching a slobby dirty drunk vomitting....................I could almost smell him. You say he played his part well? I say 'Yes he did. But why do I want to watch it? Maggie, Colin and 'Buddy'....and some of the music..........were only redeeming qualities. NOTE TO AMC.....the previews are WAY TOO LOUD...........always. I cover my ears especially for the music background to them. It's just crazy that you assault us this way. And don't say it's because I'm so old. I'm NOT DEAF.....yet.
You wouldn't believe how fantastic this production was. The orchestra was spot on. Voices, staging, costumes all grand. And this in spite of the bombing and explosions going on in the theatre next to us........really an unfortunate distraction.
I would give this opera a 10 rating if I could. The voices were fantastic. And one was Kansas City's own! Too bad the picture didn't fit the screen. Heads were cut off, Feet weren't there and ............. guess what .......... no subtitles. Regrettably, anyone seeing it for the first time missed the humorous subtlties and puns. But thanks for the free pass for next week's opera!
Voices were exceptionally lovely. Staging and presentation very creative and interesting. Much talent all 'round. However, AMC did it again. I thought it wouldn't happen in Fork & Screen; disappointments occurred only in Theatre 19 previously. I arrived 30 minutes early........to the usual blaring ads, trivia. I warned twice that this was not the customary beginning & was assured that all was well. It was NOT. The opera started 20 minutes LATE and NONE of the premliminary was shown.....not the introductory Met info nor the backstage presentation by Thomas Hampson. WHY DOES THIS CONSISTENTLY HAPPEN AT AMC? This is the fourth time this season such a disappointment happened and at 20 bucks a ticket it is inexcusable.
