visually appealing but sort of boring...burton has created a fascinating "underland" but for me it was less than wonderful

i expected Gran Torino to be dirty harry on geritol; it was anything but. clint eastwood continues to amaze. just when you think you've got his character, Walt, figured out, he surprises you. some of the plot points were contrived but as another reviewer said, i laughed, i cried, and i was overwhelmed by the lack of choices for inner city youth who don't want to join a gang.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Painful but worth it

i liked what one reviewer said...not a dry eye in the house but no heroes...it's so true. multi layered characters, each bringing their own to the table. kristin scott thomas was marvelous as were the other actors. slow, quiet movie but i was far from bored. it was hard to talk about the movie afterwards...had to let some time go by. but this is what a movie should be and do to your emotions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
