As we all go through these tough economic times, sometimes people refer to the Great Depression. People out of work and without even food is extreme no matter when it happens. Anyway, I love, love, love J Depp AND C Bale so I would have gone to this pic just because. But I wanted to see what they did with a true story - the beginning of the FBI and heyday of the Depression-era gangsters/American outlaws. This movie ROCKED!! Even bad boys are not just one-sided. I was happy to see these were not cookie-cutter criminals. I loved the characters, the setting, the way the story was told. AND I was glad that there was no gratuitous violence. It WAS there but always appropriate.
If you like Sandra Bullock go see this movie. I think she is very good at physical comedy and there were some gems in this movie. The relationships between all the characters was believable, frustrating as family stuff sometimes is and also, very funny, especially if you remember that you are an observer of the family dynamic. Also, the scenery was to die for. I would LOVE to live here. With that in mind the decisions the characters made was understandable and very involving. All in all, very pleasant movie with funny, funny people.
Run, no FLY to see this one. I laughed out loud throughout the movie. I've always loved museums. If you've visited any of the Smithsonian museums in D.C. you'll want to check out this film. And it doesn't disappoint. The cool factor of the museums along with the humorous interaction of the characters makes this a totally enjoyable movie. I recommend this to EVERYONE!!
This movie was not what I expected. What I thought I would see was more DaVinci Code stuff. This was, but wasn't. Also, I love Tom Hanks so would have gone anyway. BUT this movie was a real thriller, full of nail-biting action and not an impossible story line. Will the good guys win and who exactly are the good guys?? The movie flows so that you follow the search - yes, there is a search - minute by minute. AND this time there is a deadline which promises disaster. But not to worry, there are plenty of twists and turns leading to - maybe?? - more and more twists, turns and solutions. See this one wherever you can.
If you have IMAX please, please go see this Star Trek prequel. The characters are not overdone or campy. BUT you do get a hint of the persons who came after. The visuals are awesome but not so visual that you lose track of the actual story. The story and the graphics are just seamless. The characters are believable which doesn't always happen. AND on a big screen plus in IMAX this movie comes to life. You are right there with Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Sulu and all the others. Go see this!!!
This prequel was sooo good! I have seen ALL of the X-men movies and wasn't sure a "before" pic was for me. BUT this was a great character study of Wolverine. The special effects were awesome. The story was the same which I appreciated. In other words, even though this movie covered an earlier time, it was not confusing because mutants were still discriminated against, tortured and threatened. AND, of course, like the other X-men movies, the characters overcame their situations, if only for just that moment in time, and continued on no matter what.
This movie did not disappoint. I especially enjoyed John Travolta's performance even though I went to this movie for Denzel. The pace was very good. The theme was not overdone. You know, a hostage situation, etc, etc. AND Mr. Travolta was quirky, unstable and a mystery. I thought all the characters were explored just enough without straying from the story line. If you want a good old-fashioned action movie without too much technology or gadgets, see this one!
This was year #3 for this marathon movie experience. Year #1 I was in survival mode but ever since the experience has been FANTASTIC!!! Of course it doesn't hurt that this year's movies were ALL awesome! You have to do this at least once.
