I believe you can't find better artists than this cast to perform the opera. However I would not care to see it or hear it a second time. I favor the week-day showing. I look forward to future performances.
All the cast was great. I enjoyed Kim the most. I hope Calleja doesn't ruin his voice doing such a heavy role so soon. The staging was excellent. Much relief after La Sonnambula disaster last season. The only thing I have a problem with is, the camera work. It's always much to close, almost all the time. I would like to see at times all the stage and get an idea of the whole picture. I didn't get to see the last act because of the snow storm we had on Long Island.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I've seen this production at the met several times. This was a wonderful experience. I just wish they would pan out to see the whole stage more often. I thought the singers were excellent, Poplavskaya was great! Hope to see her again.Giordani bottomed out with the low notes. As far as mid-week showing I prefer it. The only problem was the transmission went out several times and at some of the best moments of the opera. There was a problem at the sending end.
I would give four stars for the singing and zero stars for the production. I left after the first act and listened on the radio. Amina walking in with a cell phone..seem you can't get away from them. I hope Dame Joan wasn't watching it. I'm very surprised that the Met. would agree to such a production.
I did not like the staging. In the first act Butterfly "s hand was on a pole and you can see another hand holding the pole. I found I was watching the hand instead of Butterfly. (A problem with close camera work.) The puppet was very distracing because of the close cameras, I felt there was a crowd around Buterfly when the puppet was there. It took three people to operate the puppet. I'm sure all this worked better if you were in the audiance. I did love the artists and I had a lumb in my throat when It was over. The opera was a wonderful success.
I agree with all the reviews. I feel it's the next best thing in being there. The sound was perfect not to loud and very true. The only fault which is a a small one is..I wish the camera would pan out a bit at times to see the whole stage. I've gone to several HD operas and loved them all. Each time I go there a more people attending..a good sign
