With great source material like Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, The Hurt Locker and anything on HBO. Great urban shoot outs to pull from like Heat and The Town, you would think Battle LA would be a can't miss summer blockbuster. Especially with the budget this film had, you should expect more; no demand more!
Unfortunately, we are talking T4 bad. The movie spends too much time trying to get you to care about inconsequential characters and the back story on Aaron Eckhart was both a cliche and inconsequential.
The one thing we learned from other war films is that men in arms, don't have to stop and say, "I love you," on screen to get the audience to understand these men will fight to the death for each other. But B:LA stops every chance it can to host a group hug.
The fight scenes are decent, but are more of an interlude between the group hugs and are not stitched together in any cohesive manner to further the story along.
Don't blink or you will miss the climactic battle scene. It's over that quick, which is a blessing, cause it brings this mess to an end.
Save your money, and wait for the iTunes rental. Perhaps, the director's cut can fix some of the movies problems, but I doubt it.
Zombieland was a much better movie than I expected. It's a fast paced movie that doesn't take itself to seriously. You can laugh through every second of the movie.
Original story, solid acting, smart and funny. Even the gore will make you laugh. Go see and I can't wait for the DVD outtakes.
I was hopeful that this movie would be entertaining. I was not prepared for the non-stop action, humor, and drama of this film. It doesn't matter if you've never seen a Trek film before, love Trek or are somewhere in the middle, you will walk out of this movie saying WoW what a ride.
In closing, Titanic's record of $600M could be beamed aboard the Enterprise.
First, I would like to say the bar wasn't very high for this movie because XMen 3 was terrible. Second making a comic book adaption is not an easy thing. Three Wolverine is one of the most complex comic book characters out there.
But I think this movie could have been much better than it was. The whole Team X thing was a movie invention that has just been added to the Marvel Universe. I would have liked to see more of the internal struggle with Wolverine between his animal and human side. Wolverine is rage personified, not a soft and cuddly lumberjack.
In conclusion, this is better than X-3 but not nearly as good as X1 or X2.
