A "good" movie for those 8 & under

Today, the most successful childrens' movies provide humor for the entire audience. In the case of Hotel For Dogs this is pretty much a kid-only picture. I found myself bored and wondering if this was "too juvenile" for my son (9). Granted, it's an good family friendly choice.
While the theater was filled with the occasional gut-busting laughter from the smallest of kids and "ohhs & ahhs" from yet another pound puppy cutaway doing something "cute or silly" I found it shallow and overly predictable. Lisa Kudrow & Kevin Dillon were brought in for comic relief and for a 6 year old I'm sure they did a fine job.
Overall ... glad we went but would be very selective on who I'd recommend this movie to.
