Wow, the previews for this were better than the movie. I wouldn't classify myself as a horror "buff" but definitely have seen my fair share of GOOD horrors--this not being one of them. There were so many points where this was more comparable to "Itchy & Scratchy" than a horror film. It was comedic at times like the talking goat, or the anvil that happened to be strung by a rope in an urban city house shed? And could we please not have so many disgusting fluids leak into the leading lady's mouth? By all means, see this movie if you have no brain and are scared easily. On the other hand, If you follow those strange things called plots: BEWARE!
This movie was a fantastic journey into the mind of a crotchety old man--who makes you empathize with what he goes through. I felt so sorryfor kids so emotionally disturbed by the death of his wife or the loss of "Kevin" that it brought them to tears--one of them even asked to go home. I would seriously take into consideration your child's development and comprehension of death and loss before taking them to this movie publicly. But a great movie for those a little older! :-)
Overall I would rate this movie good. It was certainly enjoyable on more than one age level and made me laugh outloud in many places. It had a good story line and a positive moral about self-reflection. Plus, the graphics were amazing, as they seem to get better every year. Tthe attention to slight pigmentation changes in the face, or the addition of freckles made this movie far more enjoyable than when I remember computer animated films beginning.
