While the movie does have its chuckles, the script was far too empathetic and washed over W's major blunders, both before the presidency and after. Go see Frost/Nixon, when it comes out, for a more realistic take on recent presidential history.
Fantastic fun with lots of great special effects. Only one disappointment--no Rachel Weisz. Rachel's replacement, Maria Bello, just doesn't come across as the vibrant, self-assured, intelligent heroine we want to see. Bello's emotions seemed forced.
If you are expecting incredible moves, unbelievable special effects and non-stop action, you will not be disappointed! From McAvoy's transformation from baby-face whimp to super-charged assassin and Jolie's sexy savvy to Morgan Freeman's wicked mind, this movie has all the elements to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Yes, Adam Sandler may be at his most crude in this sidelong look at humanity, but he does it so well! Full of impossible moves as a top notch counter-terrorist, and over-the-top body-comedy, this movie will keep you laughing. No deep plot here, but funny, crass entertainment.
While I expected George Clooney and Rene Zellweger to be superb, it was the trailers that led me to want to see this movie. I heard the mediocre reviews and I have to wonder what the critics are looking for in a movie. This one was clever, funny and entertaining. No shoot 'em ups or car chases--maybe that is what is lacking for the critics. In this movie, Clooney's character retains some of the characteristics of his role in Oh Brother Where Art Thou? And that was hysterical. A great movie all around.
