If you've seen Ferngully,Dances With Wolves or Pocahantas, then you've seen the plot of this film. But that's NOT why you go to this film. You go because the animation and 3D techniques are revolutionary. I have never seen any film that actually puts you into the film. This film does. The clarity of the CGI is beyond anything you will ever see.Not a hint of pixelation or green screen. The depth of the 3D is extrordinary, and the artistry in creating the planet Pandora is almost incomprehensible. I recommend that you see Avatar in IMAX 3D or a theatre that has state of the art projection. The experience from a tactile point of view will be unforgetable.
District 9 ends up being a good film, not a great film. Alot is not explained in this film. Why did the aliens come to earth in the first place? Why didn't they use their superior weapons when they were first arrested? But overall the story is both interesting and exciting. It would have been a better film if very single shot were not handheld. I understand the need to make the film seem like a documentary, but the handheld "real story" effect loses it's portency because it is overused. The director should have setup some of the scenes from a tripod rather than the steadycam. Definitely a scifi film worth seeing.
