Jack Black and Shirley McClain manage to pull off a miraculously credible tour de force of acting among many wonderful real people. Writing is first rate, and the balance of leaving reality just enough to make it work on the screen is managed by Linklater with real assurance. Very funny and wistfull: do not leave the theater before the credits end.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors

Animal Kingdom is a tense, beautifully drawn film with superb acting from end to end. The first sequence sets the standard for the film: Jay watches with stunned indifference as his mother's overdosed body is removed by medics, his attention (and ours) partly pulled away by a tv program playing in the room. Outstanding first time out for this director.
