Gus Van Sant?

The first thing I tell my friends is that this movie is very un-Gus Van Sant. The telltale 'old-looking' film and some of his visual predilections are basically the only remnants of his very specific cult style. Despite that, though, the film is incredible. The character research, the subtle nuances in the portrayals of Milk and White betray the kind of brilliant directing that only Gus Van Sant can command. In addition to just being a great film, 'Milk' really paints the picture of the contemporary issue of human rights from the gay point of view in a way that has, until now, remained unsatisfactorily voiced. A must-see for anyone who knows at least one gay person.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
