While I appreciated the originality of the concept, I was disappointed with the execution. A silent movie has to keep the story simple but this was so predictable that it was hard to remain interested, especially with the (overdone) effort to present a 20s era film quality resulting in a washed out image throughout. I kept hoping for more visual contrast. Acting OK, some clever background references (and nothing offensive) but not up to the hype.
Maybe I'm not the target audience for this one, though I always enjoy a good action movie, as well as a clever comedy. My tastes run toward the non-traditional. The first half hour was pretty entertaining....after that not so much. No complaints with the acting, but I thought the humor was based on predictable influences.
While a little long, this is a good combination of action, special effects and interesting story. Multiple levels of dream sequences are easy enough to follow if you stay focused. I could see where, even a short distraction, might be a problem. Overall, one of the best movies of the summer!
