Underplaying at the center by Depp works very well; film circles around his characer metaphoricaly and literally. Cinematography is brilliant, feauring many horizontal pans, accented by many effective bleach-outs or overexposure. Casting immauclate, with a special nod to J Edgar Hoover, whose effete pervesity is captured subtly but unmistakably.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
