As usual, Peter Jackson's focus on character development pays off, with a wonderfully emotional climax. The movie's expansive natural scenery, sets, and lighting was much more beautiful and Avatar-like than I remember it in LOR. And a decade of advancements in animation technology was also evident in the very realistic giants, goblins, and wargs
Going in, I was skeptical about whether I could become emotionally invested and bonded to a new band of brothers -- but I shouldn't have worried, because casting and direction seems to be Mr. Jackson's specialty.
That's all I'll say, because it's best going into the theater with no expectations and fresh eyes.
