I liked the movie and thought that overall it was well acted - Keira Knightly's character seemed to have a big shift that was hard to digest. Those who (whom?) I saw the movie with could not get over the plot points not addressed in either the book or the movie so for them I think it was frustrating. It did not bother me as much as it did them. I think the movie would be more satisfying if it got a bit more into the character's heads and thought processes. Other than the plot issue (or non-issue, depending on personal taste) it was a good film. It is, however, very bleak and depressing so if you don't like that kind of movie, you will not like this one. Carey Mulligan was the best part of the movie. Glad I saw it. Can definately tell it was written by the same guy who wrote "Remains of the Day". Themes of personal resignation without much fight to one's lot in life, sacrifice without reward, etc. The stylized sets and costumes were almost overdone and made it cartoonish rather than surrealistic. Still, again, I liked it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
