Lots of action, but pretty thin premise. Silly set-up in beginning that was poorly explained in the end. Would this Manchurian candidate have awakened otherwise? And what about the surviving witness?
As everyone else said, it's "laugh out loud funny!" Meryl, Alec and Steve were amazing! I just didn't get the kids a little bit, somewhat sappy - except John Krasinski who was fantastic!
Great to watch a comedy that didn't go for the juvenile laughs - in fact it laughed at juvenile comedy. A little long - I say this only because I looked at my watch 3/4 of the way through, but very enjoyable.
Highly stylized, this movie was a live action version of a graphic comic novel. The director was more interested in individual shots and frames than good acting. Some chase scenes were very intense and exciting, but the premise and dialog left a lot to be desired. And the "Loom of Fate?" Please!
Great acting!! Great effects!! For once, one wasn't sacrificed to the other. My one criticism is Tony's romp with the Vanity Fair reporter to establish his "playboy" ways. That was a bit unnecessary. Otherwise, what a great movie. Favreau scores!!!! Genius casting of Robert Downey, Jr.
