It's hard for me to give a good movie review, partly because I really don't know what matters to people, only what matters to me. I'm very partial toward movies that tell a piece of my story, characters that resemble me in some ways... I definitely found a part of my own story, my own personality traits in Duncan. I too was that awkward kid sitting in "The way, way back"... And for that reason, it was easy for me to emotionally connect with him and appreciate his point of view... I think the kid who played Duncan did a pretty good job, although I feel like even he, the actor, wasn't sure just how to emote his character at times... I'm sure it is hard for most actors from time to time... But there were some moments of emotional intensity that he nailed, and some that he missed the mark on... Overall though, I think he did a good job telling a piece of my story. Sam Rockwell did an excellent job in his role... I've liked this guy for some time, and his performance in this movie made me like him even more. Steve Carell is... Steve Carell.... I will say he did a pretty good job with his character... Some say there was no background into WHY he was a jerk in this movie, but since this movie isn't about him, I would say knowing his back story isn't terribly important in the end. It was a good movie overall... I can't say it was as good as last year's The Perks of Being a Wallflower as a coming-of-age tale, but it was good in its own right. Definitely worth seeing in the theater or renting/buying when it comes out on video.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

No qualms really... Excellent action, storyline was good. I was expecting The Rock to be a bad guy, in all honesty, like some of the crooked mexican cops.... Never thought he'd do what he did at the end though.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a former bullied child/teen, I was utterly shocked at how well the director, as well as the actor, Kodi Smit-McPhee captured the experience of being the victim of bullying. Kodi was great, Chloe was predictably great... Loved the story.... Hoped for a little different ending, but wasn't unsatisfied by any means. Watching Kodi being bullied was like watching a video of myself from 16 years or so ago... I really felt for him, and sort of looked at Abby as a really special person... It takes a very kind, loving person to reach a hand out to someone who's hurting and alone.. It was very touching. In between the bloody massacres, that is... :-p
Yes, I recommend this movie.
