Entertaining, But...

While the development of the character was important, I felt like I was watching "Gladiator, the sequel." Too often the character was like Russell Crowe, and his fearless persona was like the "Gladiator" character. As far as the SPFx, yes high quality and well done. The film moved at a pace to rival "Speed" or "The Dark Knight." There were problems. Hades was far to predictable, Zeus was a whimp, and the build up to the final battle was anti-climatic as you are left with, Is that it? Clearly, this should have been a trilogy, there were too many diverse characters and we know knew little about them. Go see it for the excitement, but don't expect an Oscar consideration.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

An Epic on a Grand Scale

While the plotline was predictable, the execution of that plot line was not. My initial perceptions was I would be dealing with CGI similar to those used in the "Final Fantasy" film, but was quickly surprised that they were much better. I lost my pre-concieved notions and saw the images as real people and not CGI. I also questioned whether the war-mongering Colonel was real or CGI. Avatar will clearly take on two maybe three Oscars, but may lose the "Original Screenplay" oscar to "The Blind Side." Hollywood has ignored CGI actors and actresses in the past (Eddie Murphy and Ellen DeGeneres), but Zoe Saldana did an excellent job even though we saw only her eyes and mouth, her personality came through.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Safe for Christians - Not a Satanic Film

Angels and Demons was a much better book, but I was convinced it would have to be an abridged version of the book, but I did not expect the abridged version to change the story line. At the very beginning of the film, I realized it was a movie adaption of the book that was an exciting, fast moving film, filled with suspense, intrigue, and focused more on Hank's character. It clearly did not take shots at the church, nor did it focus on the dark elements of the Illuninati, but it kept the film moving with little delays in the action. This could go down as one of the better films of the summer. It is safe for Christians to see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Got what I expected and a Little more

I was kind of hoping that Nicolas Cage was not going to portray an all-knowing recipient of some higher power and it was good he did not. This time he was a recipient of something he had to figure out. It was kind of like CBS' "Numbers" in overdrive. The action level was intense and at times making you wonder what happens next. I saw too much of "Dark City" in the film and that bothered me. The FXs were excellent and the final sequence was unexpected. Not a great movie, but one I would watch on DVD when it comes out.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Will Smith delivered an oscar nominating performance in this film and his co-star Rosario Dawson was excellent as well. I had not seen these two together since Men in Black II, but it was nice to see the chemistry was still there. This became a painful story as as the film progressed as we saw the master plan for his life. My only kick is it took too long to get the whole reason for his scarifice, I wish we would have got that sooner. It was also a good warning about blackberry and texting while driving.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The day the plot stood still

The best way I could describe this film is being teased to the point of explosion only to be let down by a plot that left you hanging. Visually stunning, with decent, not great acting by Keannu Reeves, the movie plodded along focusing on bonding of the human biologist, her rebellious stepson and the visitor. I was impressed by GORT, but I feel they [producers] did not do enough to boost the action. At least in the original film, we were given a moral to the story, this one just ended to stay on budget. This could have been a great movie, but it did not cross the finish line,
No, I do not recommend this movie.
