This is one of my favorite musicals. And Rob Marshall missed the boat. And I'm really disappointed. Part of the reason is the same reason that RENT failed as a movie. It is SO disjointed to switch from film realism to big splashy musical numbers! Stick to ONE convention! One of the few moments that actually worked great was when Marion Cotillard sang My Husband Makes Movies. The only singer in the whole bunch is Fergie....who does deliver with Be Italian......this was the best musical number too.....but then Marshall takes the whole burlesque thing way too far . Antonio Bandaras was great in the Broadway version. AND, he not only could sing The Bells of St. Sebastian (a vocally difficult song, AND a BIG piece of the plot threat. ),
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This is simply the most liberating movie with a gay theme I have ever seen. Stellar in every way. One of Gus Van Zant's greatest movies, and he may have just done the definitive gay movie, about real people who aren't conflicted or anguished, like Broke Back Mountain. These people are full of life and passion and it is just inspiring on so many levels. Sean Penn is one of our world's greatest actors, and he is just awesome truly awesome to watch.......NObody could have done Harvey Milk better justice. Wow..... Everyone in this is just great; the straight actors play gay characters and gay actors play the straight ones.....just liberating.............do not miss this.......
Yes, I recommend this movie.
