Sean Penn truly clarified that he is an artist in this film. He played a queen so well, I felt like I was watching a true gay "scene" with this movie acted by, I assume, primarily heterosexual actors. I believed Sean was Harvey and though the cinematography was beautiful, at times I felt like I could have been watching a documentary, that's how real the acting and script were. As a lesbian feminist who sees an enormous void left since street activism has all but nearly disappeared, I appreciated the history, relationships, humanity and power of Harvey's story. The ending is a tragic part of our homophobic history. We lost a great leader with Harvey's death. I hope that more than just the Gay and Straight Ally community will see this film.
