Cliched, fake, forced, by this time this franchise has become a parody of itself. Everything about it felt tired, tired, tired. I never thought I would hate these girls, but I certainly did here. An entire hour of oohs and ahhhs over decadent clothes, food, locales - nauseating. Could not wait for this to be over.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This is not a comedy - but it is a wonderful movie. If you are looking for belly laughs, this is not that film. What this is though is a finely realized, deep and affecting reflection of real characters and their relationships. I thought about this movie for days afterwards and in light of all of the uninteresting movies being released this summer - it is refreshing to see complex characters with complex relationships on the big screen. Catherine Keener and Amanda Peet give great performances.
A really enjoyable movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's not that it's bad...

It's not that this movie is bad. It's just that it's missing so many of the elements that made the first one so compelling. Obviously the first place to start is what made the first version so powerful and that was Ray Harryhausen's special effects. Yes, it looks unsophisticated by todays standards - however, in a time when anything is possible visually in movies today - it all seems so terribly ordinary. Mr. Harryhausen's fx in CotT1 was magical - it really was something special. Here it is all very much like we have seen it before.
No disrespect to Laim Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, but these two were just not very inspiring as gods. There is no way they could compare with the likes of Sir Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith, Claire Bloom and Ursula Andress.
The biggest thing lacking in this new version was the human element - the entire thing propelling this story forward was the fact that Perseus's family was killed. But in the original, what we had the treat to see were the sensitivities of the gods, with feelings of jealousy, slight, and hurt pride - which made the film so much more compelling because these are incredibly human traits and yet none of that reaches the new version - so the human emotional component is missing.
It's not that this is a bad film - but it could have been so much more.
