Excellent singing, orchestra, acting, well filmed. And of course it's a gangbuster opera in the first place. The loud singing sounded a little clipped in places, suggesting the volume was too much for the speakers. Florez as Almaviva was amazing, the others were merely excellent. I am glad we didn't have a 40 minute intermission as with the live operas, but 10 minutes would have been nice.
I have always loved this opera, on recordings, and was really excited to see it in performance. The orchestra was great, the singing was great. Faust looked like he was thinking about hitting the notes, but the devil and Marguerite stayed in character. The special effects were sometimes wonderful, sometimes distracting. Another reviewer said there were sound and video glitches every 15 minutes. I didn't see any visual glitches but the sound glitches were every 5 minutes; subtract one star. PS I was just shocked that the live audience didn't applaud after D'amour l'ardente flamme; she nailed it!
