This is a truly awful film. No real story or characters to care about. It's overly long and dreadfully slow. Watching it is worse torture than water boarding. Do yourself a favor and read the original children's book instead.
The violence, brutality, and gore make this a very tough movie to watch at times, but it's worth seeing for Christoph Waltz's performance as the villain. He's outstanding, steals every scene he's in, and is sure to get an Oscar nomination. Brad Pitt turns in an entertaining comic performance, and everyone else is good, too. The running time, however, is much too long. Like Peter Jackson, Tarantino needs a good editor! My biggest problem, though, was to see how enthusiastically the audience responded to the violence of the film. Very disturbing.
I'd rate this film as two and a half stars if I could. It's got its strengths and weaknesses. The protagonist isn't particularly likable in the beginning, some story elements don't quite make sense, etc. It also borrows heavily from a lot of past sci-fi films: "Alien Nation," "Robocop", and even "The Fly." Then there's the unexpected gore, which I found to be a little tough to watch sometimes. See at your own discretion!
Funny, playful, clever, heartbreaking, well-acted/written/directed. I can't recommend this movie highly enough. It's easily the best picture of the year so far, and I hope it doesn't get overlooked at Oscar time. Any guys who are afraid of seeing it and think it's a "chick flick" have nothing to fear. If anything, this movie was made for men, and it shows the sad, harsh reality of what dating women is really like. It's about time someone made a film like this!
To put it bluntly, this movie sucked. It was too long, the story (such as it was) was a mess, the characters were so unlikeable that you had no one to root for, and few jokes were actually funny. And let's not forget Apatow's self-indulgent casting of his real life daughters (even going so far as to include footage from one of their home movies). Personally, I couldn't wait for this film to be over. Don't waste your time. Skip it!!!
Not quite as funny as BORAT, but still hilarious. While some of the material falls flat, most of it hits and is very funny. Not for the faint-hearted or prude, however. So, overall: lewd, crude, offensive, tasteless. Go see it!
There's just something about this movie that didn't quite connect for me, despite good performances and great production design. I think it's because you're not given anyone to root for, even Dillinger (who wasn't exactly a nice guy). Having said that, this film is light years ahead of garbage like "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
I HIGHLY recommend that anyone see this movie. It's emotional, exciting, original, and unexpectedly hilarious. Definitely one of Pixar's strongest films. Do yourself a favor: skip "Star Trek" and "Terminator Salvation"--go see "Up" instead!!!
All this movie did was make me appreciate James Cameron's first two Terminator films even more. And while far from perfect, even "Terminator 3" was better than this movie. At least it had a gutsy ending, This film was overdirected, poorly plotted, and relentlessly grim. No fun whatsoever. And there's a HUGE plot hole in it that I don't know how the filmmakers missed, especially considering that they hung the whole movie on it. Pass on it.
