First off, this movie is not for children just because this is a horse story. Seriously - first word in the title is War - what are people thinking bringing little ones to movies like this? Secondly, beware horse lovers because this movie has some brutal scenes. I probably would have preferred the book to the movie in this case, personally. My husband and son-in-law said it was good but slow - about what they had expected.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I went in knowing the story-line would be weak but expected to be wowed by the effects. For a short period of time that was the case but definitely not enough to carry the rest of the movie. I was disappointed that they couldn't keep up the 3D glamour throughout the movie - there is a note that some shots are 2D but keep your glasses on the whole time - it definitely fell flat for me. Closing scene should be lying on the editing room floor - Olivia should have demanded a re-do.
My 18 year old and I saw this last night - we both very much enjoyed this movie. We both commented that we thought this movie might have been more geared to adults than the previous 2 movies - for instance there is a part where a character speaks in spanish for a short time and obviously small children would not be able to read the sub-titles to get the full conversation. Lots of emotions for sure; scary scene at a dump and outstanding goodbye - just wow.
